I have some very sad
news to share with all of you, our friend Tony
Rosetto passed away. Today we are a family, minus
one.
Tony was quite a guy, a
friend, and a good Democrat. We will miss Tony! He
radiated friendliness. The proper word is gregarious
– he was gregarious: outgoing, sociable, and, as
Will Rogers said, he never met a person he didn’t
like. At our meetings when someone new attended,
Tony was always the first to go over and introduce
himself and shake the person’s hand: “Welcome!” And
he meant it from the bottom of his heart.
There are only a handful
of people who come into your world and touch your
life in a dramatic fashion. Most people are just
flickers of light, Tony was a consistent glow of
warmth and friendship.
When I was campaigning
in 2006, Tony offered to accompany me though
Buchanan, his home town. As we went from door to
door I was amazed at the reception Tony received. At
almost every home we visited there was an out
pouring of friendship and reminiscing about times
gone by and friendships of old. Tony seemed to know
everyone and everyone was Tony’s friend. I was
amazed.
A couple of years back
we held “stone soup night” socials each Tuesday
night. They were purely informal social events for
those of us who wanted to get together and usually
the evening ended in some spirited games of euchre.
Tony and Lois attended these socials often, but one
night I remember Tony and our good friend Jerry
Slocum engaged in a discussion of old Buchanan. They
had both grown up here and for a long time they
swapped and shared stories of Buchanan. It was a
lesson on the history of Buchanan and I was
transfixed by the discussion.
Edie remembers that Tony
always seemed to wear a smile and he was so very
helpful in all that we did. From volunteering to
work our booths at events, phone banking, and
marching in parades Tony was always someone who
wanted to help. He was someone we could always count
on. Edie also remembers that when we marched in
parades, we would collect bags and bags of candy to
distribute to the children along the parade route.
Tony was so enthusiastic and loved the children so
much that we were almost always out of candy before
reaching the end of the parade. God bless you Tony!
Tony was well-loved by
all. Real success in life is a measure of the
friends who are sadden by our death and morn when we
are gone. Tony was undoubtedly the most successful
person I have ever known. Tony will forever live in
our hearts. In countless ways he exemplified “South
County” and we will all miss him so very much.
Tony had been ill for a
while and put up a valiant struggle against cancer.
But it had progressed too far. Arrangements: There
will be a visitation held Thursday between 4:00 pm
and 8:00 pm at the Swem Funeral Home in Buchanan.
The funeral will be on Friday, June 13, at the Swem
Funeral Home at 11:00 am. There will be a service
conducted at the grave site and immediately
afterwards a dinner at the American Legion in
Buchanan.
KATRINA’S SUN DIAL
BY
HENRY VAN DYKE
Time is too slow for
those who wait,
Too swift for those who
fear,
Too long for those who
grieve,
Too short for those who
rejoice,
But for those who love,
time is eternity.
Hours fly, flowers die,
New days, new ways pass
by,
Love stays.
To Lois and the Rosetto
family: our deepest condolences during this sad
time.
Lois’ address is 1118
South St, Niles MI 49120 if you would like to send a
note of support and friendship.
